After the mysterious disappearance of her flat, Sasha, a lonely storywriter, steps into a quite special night-shop based on presents and necessities, where customers of all kind of backgrounds stop by to offer what they have or ask for what they need. There, a group of 3 friends are running the night-shop and make use of their unusual skills to try and solve Sasha’s strange case. But she soon discovers that behind the späti’s backdoor, lies one of the many meeting points of a highly organized global network of utopian communities, secretly working together to build a better world.
We are looking for somebody to play Sasha: (written with the pronoun „she“ for now, but any gender identity would be welcomed for this character)
In the group she is the heart, the home, also a dreamer with a strong inner world, bringing to life people’s utopias and dreams through stories and listening. She sometimes comes across as a bit awkward in her movements or interactions with people, but learned through the years she spent by herself, to accept this part of her, and count on the self confidence that she built to make her and others at ease, laughing instead of being embarrassed. When she is not sure of what is appropriate to do, or when she doesn’t know where a project will lead her, she always chooses to count on her strong will and go straight forward. She is not good as saving her energy, dedicates herself fully to everything she starts. Wants to feel and appear as very strong and solid, people count on her for that but the downside is that she can also be a bit shutdown, or have trouble dealing with her more vulnerable emotions. After some time at the späti she becomes the magnet that holds the group of very individual friends together. She is the one always open to listen to people’s problem and take care of them. She is the one always trying to make the späti a home for all of them and the others value this a lot.
Format:
Each episode plot of Night time utopia will be based on the protagonists trying to solve a problem brought by the späti’s customers, showing different aspects of their hidden anarchist network. This project is researched-based, mixing science fiction narratives with interviews and documentation. It will be broadcasted on a web-platform that will give access in a participative way to additional resources, strategies, knowledge and stories on alternative co-living systems.
Synopsis
One day when Sasha gets home after an exhausting day, she realises her flat has just disappeared. Where there used to be a door, there is just a wall. Seriously doubting here sanity, she wonders alone and steps in a night shop.
At first glance it seems to be a quite usual shop, but what she doesn’t know yet is that it is the outpost of an Utopian secret society, called „Home“. They are part of a specific task-group of this anarchist network aimed at communicating with people living in the mainstream society, to spread their ideas and gather new strategies through discussion and community organizing. To do so, they have opened a späti in a popular neighbourhood of the city where customers of all kind of social backgrounds stop by present what they have and take what they need. She is very surprised when the 3 people running the shop seem to know about her problem. And even more when they offer her their help to solve it. Soon she realizes that they seem to have some extraordinary skills. For one there is Malin, using a spell to let her fall into a pleasant sleep. Or Chris and Cyan, communicating silently with each other, seeming to have enhanced their bodies with cyborg technology. Startled at first, Sasha starts soon to feel at home at the night shop, but are the others ready to let her into their secret ? Can she represent a threat to the other world they are hiding behind the shop’s backdoor? And who is responsible for the disappearance of Sasha’s flat?
We are a no budget production for now, so we can just cover your traveling expenses, accommodation and catering for the time of the rehearsals and shooting. We plan to use the pilot to apply for funding for the 1st season of the serie.
