Filmscreening „Drifting Paradise“ + Q&A with Cedric Retzmann

Drifting Paradise is a multi-year documentary centered around the lives and friendship of two young men on the brink of adulthood, united in their dream  of the perfect drift.

For Kurt, Lucas and their friends the serious side of life slowly begins as they’re entering their early twenties. Here, in a sparsely populated area surrounded by dense forests in northern Thuringia, they find their outlet in drifting – controlled oversteering at high speed. But as they each search for their own paths in life, their friendship changes more and more. Over the course of several years, Drifting Paradise follows this dynamic and offers insight into a unique microcosm, shaped by questions about identity, cohesion and growing up.

Drifting Paradise ist eine Langzeitbeobachtung über das Leben und die Freundschaft zweier junger Männer an der Schwelle zum Erwachsenwerden. Was sie vereint, ist ihr gemeinsamer Traum: die verlassenen Straßen im Hinterland entlang driften.

Für Kurt, Lucas und ihre Freunde beginnt mit Anfang 20 langsam der Ernst des Lebens. Hier, in einer dünn besiedelten Gegend umgeben von dichten Wäldern im Norden Thüringens, finden sie ihr Ventil beim Driften — dem kontrollierten Übersteuern bei hoher Geschwindigkeit. Doch auf der Suche nach dem eigenen Lebensweg verändern sich ihre Freundschaften immer mehr. Drifting Paradise begleitet diese Dynamik als Langzeitbeobachtung und bietet Einblick in einen besonderen Mikrokosmos, geprägt von Fragen nach Identität, Zusammenhalt und dem Erwachsenwerden.

We will show the film in German with English subtitles. The film is about 40 min. long. Afterwards we are very happy to invite Cedric Retzmann for a talk about the film after the screening.
