Ja, du kannst dich für zwei Departments bewerben. Für die erste Wahl kommt jedes Department in Frage, die „Zweitwahl“ gilt allerdings nur für für die Departments: Kamera, Drehbuch, Montage und Produktion. Die Erstwahl kann jedes Department sein.

Yes, you can apply for two departments. For the first choice each department is eligible, but the „second choice“ is only valid for the departments: camera, script, montage and production. The first choice can be any department.

Die filmArche wird nicht als ein Institut der Hochschulbildung verstanden; daher erhältst du keinen Student*innenstatus während deines Studiums an der filmArche. Dennoch erhältst du einen Student*innen ID Karte, sowie ein Abschlusszeugnis nach den 3 Jahren Studium, solange du an den meisten Klassentagen und obligatorischen Übungen teilgenommen und die Alpha, Beta und Gamma Filme abgeschlossen hast. Die filmArche bietet keinen staatlich-anerkannten Abschluss.

The filmArche is not recognized as an institute of higher education in Germany; you will therefore not receive student status while studying here. You will get a student ID card as well as a certificate at the end of the 3 years if you attended most of the classes and participated in the mandatory exercises as well as completing your Alpha, Beta and Gamma films. The filmArche does not offer a state-recognized degree.

Es bedeutet mehr Freiheit aber auch mehr Verantwortung als in einer normalen Schule. Während die Grundkurse, Lizenzen (Kameraschein, Lichtschein, etc.), sowie praktischen Übungen für das erste Jahr organisiert werden müsst ihr euch selber um euer Lehrprogramm und euer Budget der Klasse kümmern. Das bedeutet, dass jede Klasse die Freiheit hat selbst zu entscheiden was sie lernen wollen. Es bedeutet aber auch, dass keine Lehrer*innen zu euch wöchentlich in die Klasse kommen werden um euch zu sagen was ihr zu tun habt, außer ihr ladet eine*n ein dies zu tun. Es wird auch von dir erwartet aktiv an der Organisation eurer Klasse und der filmArche teilzuhaben. Zum Beispiel ist es verbindlich an einem Komitee teilzunehmen.

It means more freedom but also more responsibility than in a normal school. While the basic courses and material licenses are organized for the first year, as well as the practical exercises for each year, you will be in charge of your own curriculum and class budget.  This means that each class has the freedom to learn what they want, but also that no teacher is going to come every week to tell you what to do, unless you invite them to do so. You will also be expected to take active part in the organization of your class and of the filmArche. For example, it is mandatory to be involved in a committee.

Du wirst einen kompletten Klassentag in der Woche studieren. Im ersten Jahr wirst du auch einmal in der Woche einen Grundkurs haben, der 4 Stunden lang ist (morgens oder abends). Dazu wirst du auch Komitee Arbeit übernehmen. Dies wird mehr oder weniger Zeit in Anspruch nehmen, abhängig vom Komitee und der Zeit die ihr gemeinsam ausmacht und den individuellen Verfügbarkeiten. Aber klar, auch für eigene Filmprojekte sollst du noch mehr Zeit einplanen, dies ist aber abhängig von dir selbst! Normalerweise ist es möglich eine 20-Stunden Arbeitswoche nebenbei zu haben.

Also plane ungefähr 15-20 Stunden pro Woche für die filmArche ein.

You will study 1 full weekday per week with your class. In the first year, you will also have a basic course of 4 hours per week on a weekday, in the morning or in the evening. You will also need to do some committee work. This takes more or less time depending on the committee you choose and meeting hours have to be decided according to everyone’s availability. And of course, you might want to add more time for personal film projects, but this is up to you! In general it is doable to have a 20h  job on the side.

It is recommended to plan between 15-20 hours a week for the filmArche.

Student*innen an der filmArche zahlen monatlich 90 €. Von diesem Geld werden eure Klassen Finanzen finanziert mit denen ihr Lehrer*innen und Workshops bezahlen könnt.

Hinzu kommt eine einmalige Aufnahme- bzw. Verwaltungsgebühr von 100 € (für Studierendenausweis und weitere Formalitäten).

Students at the filmArche pay a membership fee of €90 per month. It is being used to also pay your class budget so you can then invite teachers from outside or pay workshops.

In addition, there is a one-time admission or administrative fee of €100 (for student ID and other formalities).

Ja es ist möglich Arbeitslosenleistungen zu erhalten, da du keinen Student*innenstatus erhältst. Achte jedoch darauf, dass wenn du weniger Arbeitszeit angibst als zuvor, sich deine Zulagen verringern werden.

It is possible to get unemployment benefits while studying at the filmArche, as you don’t have a student status. However, keep in mind that if you cannot work full time, your allowance will be decreased.

Du erhältst keinen Student*innenstatus daher ist auch nicht gewährleistet, dass deine Krankenkasse übernommen wird. Dennoch kannst du deine Krankenversicherung fragen, ob sie deine Versicherung übernehmen. Sonst kann deine Versicherung aber auch über die Agentur für Arbeit oder das Job Center übernommen werden, wenn du dazu berechtigt bist. (Ein Mini-Job übernimmt nicht deine Krankenkasse.)

You do not get student status that would guarantee you health insurance, however, you can ask your insurer if they would agree to cover you. Otherwise, you can get your insurance covered by the “Agentur für Arbeit” or the “Job Center” if you are eligible, or by your employer if you are working. (Minijobs do not include health insurance!).

Die BVG stellt keine Azubi Tickets für filmArche Student*innen bereit. Dennoch akzeptieren viele kulturellen Orte den Student*innen ID.

The BVG does not provide Azubi-tickets for filmArche students. However, many cultural places accept the FilmArche student card.

Ja! Im ersten Jahr machst du eine Reihe von Scheinen, damit du lernst wie du mit dem Licht-, Kamera-, und Tonequipment umgehen solltest. Wenn du diese Scheine beendet hast kannst du dir das Equipment ausleihen. In der filmArche gibt es auch Schnitt- und Farbbearbeitungsplätze für die du keinen Schein benötigst. Hier musst du dich dennoch für einen Zeitraum anmelden.

Yes! In the first year, during a series of rental licenses, you will learn how to use light, sound and camera equipment. Upon completion of these licenses, you will be able to borrow the equipment. There are also editing and color grading stations at the FilmArche that do not require any license to use, but you will need to sign up for a time slot.

Die meisten Kurse finden während des Lockdowns online statt. Je nach Regelungen können praktische Übungen stattfinden.

Most courses happen online during lockdown. Practical exercises may still take place or can be postponed depending on restrictions.
